“You couldn’t help but smile and be uplifted by their subtle yet joyous rhythms”
This is a singer songwriter who knows how to tell a story. With her soulful vocals, kora (21 string African harp) and percussive styled guitar, her music is both lyrical and uplifting. Added are the violins and rich vocal harmonies of Susie Bishop and Lara Goodridge.
Susie Bishop is a prominent vocalist and multi-instrumentalist in the Sydney music scene. Extensively educated, she holds an MMus at the Royal Northern College of Music in opera and a Bachelor of Creative Arts in Drama in addition to her rigorous classical training on violin. She is a founding member of Chaika – A Balkan Jazz fusion ensemble and sort after performer on the Australian live music scene.
Lara is not only singer/violinist of Baby et Lulu and FourPlay, she is an established session player, having performed with such luminaries as Glen Hansard, Brian Wilson and more. She has opened shows for the likes of The Corrs, Savage Garden, Youssou N’Dour, Art Garfunkel and Luka Bloom.
There is a strong musical chemistry between these players that effortlessly bridges the unconventional mix of kora (African harp) and Western classical instruments. Together they build lush harmonies and soaring string arrangements around Miriam’s songs.
“Miriam Lieberman is something of a renaissance woman ……somehow she achieves the almost impossible in blending patterned western-ed pop writing with the earthy mystique of African rhythms and freaky world instruments.” Sydney City News.
