Dear friends,
It is my great pleasure to invite you to my VERY FIRST GIG BACK IN SYDNEY and in the country after many months of traveling far and wide.I’m delighted to be performing once again with the gorgeous ladies LARA GOODRIDGE on violin and KATE ADAMS on cello. We will be playing some brand new songs as well the old favourites. Since my departure Kate has become a mother and Lara’s band Baby et Lulu have been firing with a new Aria nominated album so we have much to celebrate! This time we are at the smaller venue – The Django Bar SO BOOKING YOUR TICKET PROMPTLY IS HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

“(Miriam) has a knack for giving her songs a feeling of significance, even while they float with effervescent pop pleasure. Wikipedia’s explanation of world music includes a cited description as “someone else’s local music”. In Lieberman’s case, it’s ours. “ THE AGE- OCTOBER 2014Miriam’s music seamlessly blends African influences with blues and folk infused melodies that also capture the wild Australian landscapes of her home. Her songs are a collection of stories beautifully told through strings, powerful lyrics and her unmistakable voice. Playing kora as well as acoustic guitar, Miriam is joined by exceptional strings players – violinist Lara Goodridge and cellist Kate Adams. With their sublime strings and lush vocal harmonies there is a chemistry between these musicians and their instruments that melds into a soaring beautiful soundscape. Birds of the Moon – Miriam’s fourth album was released in August 2014. Since then the trio has toured extensively and the album received rave reviews. – Four stars in The Sydney Morning Herald, The Age, The Weekend Australian and The Music. The album was recently nominated for an Aria and made album of the week on ABC Radio National. Prior to this Miriam has released three previous albums.Miriam’s third album, THIS IS THE STORY, was inspired by and partially recorded in Mali, West Africa Many of the songs were recorded with members of Toumani Diabate’s band, ‘Symmetric Orchestra’ as well as musicians from Sydney. It’s songs are infused with an adventurous spirit and catchy African rhythms . The album received rave reviews including one of four and a half stars from The Age. – Her “ songs are beautifully melodic, richly textured but can have pointed themes. Simply brilliant!”WAKELI, her second album, was inspired by the two years Miriam spent studying traditional music in Guinea, West Africa. Songs from the album received nominations for a 2010 Music Oz award, and Rhythms magazine described it as ‘enchanting and catchy’. ABC’s Limelight concluded its review with ‘highly recommended’ and Diaspora online magazine spoke of ‘Her pure voice [floating] effortlessly over rich West African rhythms weaving in and out of English, Susu and Malenke – tribal languages of West Africa’.Miriam’s first album (NAKED WITHOUT MY CELLO) was completed in 2004 and was made possible by the assistance of the Australia Council. As well as creating a dedicated fan base it set off Miriam and cellist Kate Adams introduction to the festival circuit as well as venues around Australia.Miriam’s concerts include sellout performances at The Vanguard, The Clarendon, The Basement and Camelot Lounge, Django bar as well as performances at many festivals and venues around the country and abroad. Amongst these are The National Folk Festival, Festival of Voices, Peats Ridge, Cygnet Folk Festival, Alice Festival; Desert Harmony Festival; Gove Festival; Kochi Peace Festival in Japan; Voice of Bamako Festival in Mali; Guinean Jazz Festival in West Africa and many many more.
