Miriam Lieberman returns to The Django alongside violinist Susie Bishop (Chaika/ Hinterland) and viola player Carl St. Jacques ( Miami Symphony) fresh from their WA tour.
This singer songwriter has an unmistakable voice and is known for her own unique style on the kora – West African harp / guitar as well as her songwriting, Miriam draws her influences from far and wide – having most notably spent long periods of time studying traditional music in West Africa with local musicians including celebrated kora player Toumani Diabate.
Her songs seamlessly blend African influences with folk infused melodies. In essence, they are a collection of stories, beautifully told through strings, powerful lyrics and her emotive voice. Miriam is joined by exceptional string players – violinist Susie Bishop (Chaika / Hinterland) and viola player Carl St. Jacques ( Miami Symphony) . Miriam and her trio have been busy touring the latest album Full Circle around the country – A work that Rhythms magazine described as “A thing of intoxicating beauty”(Nov 2016) Miriam’s previous album Birds Of The Moon (Nov 2014) made Album Of The Week on Radio National.Miriam has toured extensively with her trio/solo around the country, and performed at festivals internationally including Indonesia, Turkey, Mexico, Japan, Mali and Guinea.
